Fee Agreed For Dirk Kuyt
August 17, 2006
Its all over 2FM and Today FM and all over the papers you read this morning but Liverpool have now confirmed they have agreed at long last a fee to bring Dirk Kuyt to Anfield, now more likely that the transfer will be wrapped up later today.
Kuyt is expected at Anfield today to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms of the deal. Glenn Roeder had been hoping to bring Kuyt to Newcastle and took the trip to Lansdowne road last night to watch the Dutch striker in action in the second half as Ireland took a 4-0 hammering (without Kuyt scoring) but it looks like Rafa Benitez has finally gotten his man.
Speaking earlier on, Kuyt said
There was more interest from abroad, but for me there was nothing of the calibre of Liverpool, a brilliant club with an enormous reputation, fantastic support and a fabulous history. It is an honour to play for a club like that.
While the fee has been agreed, no financial details have been released from the club but no doubt we’ll learn more as the day goes on.

Will Kuyt Be Worth It?
August 16, 2006
Dirk Kuyt. He’s 26 years old and by the end of last season he had notched up just over 120 league goals in Holland. He used to play for Utrecht until he started knocking them in for Feyenoord. His name has also been touted as an anfield prospect for long enough at this stage.
He came on in the second half for Holland tonight and no doubt the papers will be chock full of stories about him tomorrow with Liverpool expected to wrap up his transfer ahead of the weekend’s game against Sheffield United.
But at an estimated £10m do you think Dirk Kuyt will be worth it, this season, or in the long run? Do you think he can handle the Premier League and make good for Liverpool?
Me… I’m still that bit skeptical of the whole situation and personally think we’ve got much better options on the horizon. If you think different, don’t be afraid to say so!

Scott Carson Joins Charlton
August 14, 2006
Didn’t see this one coming to be honest with you but Scott Carson has just signed for Charlton on a season long loan deal.
After playing the last few months of the season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday, it was thought (or at least I thought) that Carson would be second in line to Pepe Reina this coming season but it looks like it won’t be the case with the England U21 international taking the train to The Valley to link up with ex-Red Djimi Traoré.
With David Martin as backup and Chris Kirkland gone to Wigan, it looks more certain than ever that Jerzy Dudek is sticking around and won’t be part of any transfer move to bring in Dirk Kuyt. Hopefully Carson will get some good first team action under Iain Dowie as I feel he is quite important to Liverpool’s goalkeeping future.

Le Tallec Transfer Falls Through
August 10, 2006
According to Alain Perrin it looks like Anthony Le Tallec’s proposed transfer to Sochaux has been cancelled.
“It is very complicated. I don’t know why, but it is complicated. We will bounce back and target another prospect. I have another option and we are going to travel.”
It was suggested that Le Tallec would be moving back to French football, at least on a loan move with a permanent transfer in view at Christmas or by the end of the season but for now the player shall remain in England.
No official word yet on Pongolle’s proposed move to Osasuna or transfer away from Anfield altogether with Blackburn still a possible destination.
With Niall Quinn now at the helm at Sunderland I’d wonder if he would consider re-signing Le Tallec on loan for the season, likewise with Mark Hughes for Pongolle as he looks to replace Bellamy. While I’ve already said I wouldn’t be surprised or disappointed to see them leave it would be great to have them play a full season of regular first team football and add to the squad strength next season. If its not going to happen then just cut them loose now.

Traoré Seals Charlton Transfer
August 8, 2006
Djimi Traoré has finally sealed a move away from Anfield as the French exodus continues under Rafa Benitez, destination Charlton for the Frenchman and Mali international.
Speaking last night, Traoré’s agent Willie McKay had said the player was “currently at Charlton having a medical and all should be tied up soon” while adding that Traoré was “looking forward to the prospect of joining Charlton and playing regularly”.
Snapped up almost seven years ago, Traoré cost Liverpool £500k and has seen a decent amount of action over the past few seasons, namely our Champions League winning season but with the arrival of Fabio Aurelio and increased competition for defensive places the player was found surplus to requirements at Anfield.
Looks like it will be a busy week for Liverpool with Traoré leaving, Danny O’Donnell signing for Crewe on loan, Le Tallec and Pongolle set to leave with the further possibility of a striker being added to the ranks before the Community Shield.
The transfer cost Charlton a reported £2m with Iain Dowie “delighted to have made two quality signings” (in reference to Traoré and Charlton’s other signing of the day, Amdy Faye). Traoré will undoubtedly see a lot more first team action this season and I wish him all the best at The Valley.

Le Tallec, Pongolle set for transfers
August 7, 2006
Sky Sports is this morning reporting that Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongolle are on the verge of wrapping up transfers to Sochaux and Osasuna respectively within the week.
While Pongolle has featured in Liverpool’s preseason campaign, he spent most of last season on loan at Blackburn while also struggling with injuries. The arrival of Robbie Fowler in January plus Craig Bellamy’s arrival this summer has pushed him well down the order in terms of his natural attacking position, despite the departures of Fernando Morientes and Djibril Cissé to pastures new.
Le Tallec has rarely featured for the club, spending last season with Sunderland some time at Lorient as well. Le Tallec is rumoured to spend the week with Sochaux before Alain Perrin makes a decision on the player but a move back to French football would no doubt do the player wonders.
Pongolle on the other hand looks set to join Osasuna, a move he has been linked with since the close season. With Mark Hughes keen to replace Craig Bellamy, Rovers could well step up their efforts to lure the Frenchman back to Ewood Park and while nothing has been officially confirmed from Liverpool, I wouldn’t be shocked or disappointed in any way to see the two leave the club.

Traoré Heading On Loan
July 26, 2006
A week after unconfirmed reports of Djimi Traoré signing for Charlton it seems that Traoré is almost out the door at Anfield today, according to SkySports this lunch time.
Accoring to Willie McKay, Djimi’s agent, talks with Charlton are now “at an advanced stage”.
“Djimi is close to a move to Charlton. It is a loan move with the option of a permanent deal. I have had talks with Iain Dowie and Andrew Mills about Djimi. Iain is very keen to sign Djimi and we are hopeful that it can be pushed through this week so that he can make his debut against Valencia this weekend.”
If this is true then Traoré will be lining out alongside Salif Diao who has been given permission to play against Valencia. Diao was cleared to play against Hibernian last night but didn’t feature in Charlton’s 3-2 loss to Hibs, having gone 2 goals up, the Senegal man training with The Addicks this week in view of a transfer.
Busy week this for Liverpool, those Anfield doors just seem to be swinging….

Diao Off To Charlton, More To Follow?
July 24, 2006
Well at least after a week of rumours over Djimi Traoré we’ve finally got one Liverpool player in the form of Salif Diao arriving at Charlton ahead of a possible transfer to The Valley.
Diao will spend all of this week training with Charlton as Iain Dowie looks to strengthen his midfield selection ahead of the start of the coming season. Diao too, credit too him has looked well in preseason for Liverpool after what can only be described as a disastrous spell at the club between injuries, loans, reserve appearances and just being left out in the wilds. Even with Hamann out of the club, Diao doesn’t really stand a chance getting in at midfield at all this year and is genuinely served better away from Anfield.
Having played against Wrexham and putting in a good first half appearance against Crewe this weekend, Diao is likely to travel with Charlton on their preseason tour this week picking up games against Hibs and Valencia with Liverpool having granted Charlton permission to use Diao in midfield against Hibernian tomorrow night.
Still no word however on if there is more to follow Diao out of Anfield, namely Djimi Traoré with no real word on the continued interest in the player from both Bolton and Charlton.

Unconfirmed : Traoré Signs For Addicks
July 19, 2006
Unconfirmed reports this afternoon (like this one) circling the web announcing that Djimi Traoré has signed for Charlton as of this afternoon in a deal reportedly worth £600k. It had been estimated that the transfer would net Liverpool in the region of £1m thought Traoré was worried that the deal he was on at Liverpool and the proposed fee would price him out of a transfer move.
More details on this as and when they become available.

Kromkamp Making Way For Kuyt?
July 19, 2006
So it looks like Jan Kromkamp is next out the door in the Anfield exodus having only arrived at the club in the last few months to replace Josemi, though “having failed to impress” as the papers are putting it I would have to disagree - I don’t think we should rate him or cast him aside after just 5 months in the league.
Both PSV and Feyenoord are said to be chasing the Dutch right back and according to transfer reports, Kromkamp was initially offered in a cash p/x deal to land Dirk Kuyt earlier this summer but with PSV also upping their interest in the player who has made just 7 full starts for the club (plus 10 off the bench) my guess is that Benitez and co. will look to spark a bidding war for the player, thus lowering the asking price for Kuyt. With Liverpool seemingly the only real contenders for the player’s signature, Feyenoord make well have to reduce their asking price with the player so determined to leave for life in the Premier League.
The deal is set to be bolstered by almost an additional £3m with Djimi Traoré set to walk out of Anfield for £1m with both Wigan and Charlton looking at the French left back, while Antonio Barragan’s £1.7m move to Deportivo should hopefully be completed by this weekend.
