Sissoko Out Of Marseille Fixture

Momo Sissoko In Action For LiverpoolMomo Sissoko is looking for a meeting in January to sort out his Liverpool future. He’s angry because he’s been left out of the Champions League squad to face Marseille tonight, a must-win game for Liverpool. Boo hoo.

Benitez needs to put out his strongest possible side against Marseille, that much is a given. Sissoko, at this point, doesn’t fit into his strongest possible side. Sure enough, it would be a bonus to have a fully fit Xabi Alonso and Daniel Agger in the side but injury is keeping them out. In the midfield department, Sissoko continues to slip down the list.

He played in the loss against Reading at the weekend, but this is another ball game altogether. This is the Champions League.

It is funny, the report of him complaining about competition for first team football coming to light. My own Football Manager career with Liverpool (currently in it’s first season), has the same problem - Sissoko complaining about competition for first team football. If you’re so worried - go out and prove yourself. There’s a small difference between thinking you’re good enough to play and having your boss know you’re good enough to play.

Understandably, Sissoko doesn’t want to miss out on a big occasion. His family are in France, it is Liverpool’s biggest game of the season thus far, and there’s an awful lot riding on the game - pride, jobs, money - so who wouldn’t want to be a part of it!

I don’t find it as any surprise he’s been left out. Gerrard is on form, Mascherano is on form, Babel and Benayoun are comfortable playing across the middle of the park, Lucas is starting to step up a gear. If Sissoko was to sit down in January and discuss his future, I don’t think he would be too much of a loss to the Liverpool engine room in midfield.

Momo has been playing gash all season 9bar the odd game), he should have no complaints. It’s not like he hasn’t been given the opportunities either.

i think for the sake of our season he has to go. tell me, what is the point of having a ball winner who wins the ball only to give it away with his next touch? he wins the ball, we move forward losing our markers only to see him pass left right or backwards to no one on our team and then we are out of position to defend when it should be us counter attacking. as a newcomer he was a revelation, a tough tackling ball winner, but he has not progressed one single bit. he has simply not flourished as we expected so why not take the money, secure mascherano and let lucas have a crack? i just wish jay spearing from the reserves was 6 inches taller because he loks a player but his lack of height could cost him.

At the beginning of the season I was begining to be impressed by Momo. It seemed that he had spent the close season addressing his major weakness - the ability to pass the ball. Unfortunately he has fallen back to his old ways. He may battle hard but if after winning the ball he only gives it away again then what’s the point? As a fan I get nervous everytime he gets the ball in a ‘vulnerable’ position. I guess his team mates are beginning to feel the same way.

You’re all right in my view.

If it comes down to it where Benitez has to to offload someone in order to get funds I’d say shop Sissoko. I don’t see why we wouldn’t be able to get a few million for him at this stage in the year.

And with a few mil for Riise, we’re well on the way to funding Masch, which is what I believe will happen (possibly also Crouchie being offloaded, but that will be his call not Rafa’s). If Rafa does want a new CB he had better have a very good December, including beating these French twats and 3 points vs the scum. It’s all still very much in our hands.

Three points at the weekend would be a gift alright, against United and then take a scalp against Chelsea in the cup.

Looking good so far tonight, can’t fault them.

I still think Riise has a place at Liverpool, though if he was sold he could certainly raise a few million. Any hope of keeping on to Mascherano full time is going to require big bucks. You saw the farce in bringing Tevez to United, I can imagine we’re looking at something similar over Mascherano.

As for Crouch, I reckon he’ll be next out the door as well. Tall and all as he is, Torres is cementing his spot as a given starter, leaving Crouch, Kuyt and Voronin for for the second spot. Given his wholesale improvement over the last season and into this season, he’ll easily fetch more than what we bought him for. Maybe he’ll link up at Newcastle with Owen?

Got something to say?
