Champions League Draw 11am Today

August 3, 2007

Liverpool feature in the Champions League draw today to see who we wind up against in the third round of qualifying. Heading into the draw with Arsenal, seeded for the draw, Liverpool could end up potentially anywhere - Russia, Greece, Turkey, Switzerland, Norway - anything is possible.

As always, there’s no chance of us getting paired with Arsenal - those are the rules - and seeded teams will avoid each other so we won’t be facing the likes of Benfica, Celtic, Ajax etc.

The first leg of games is set to take place across the 14/15 of August with the return legs taking place August 28/29. The group stage proper will be revealed at that stage with games kicking off in September.

Check back later this morning for details of the draw.

Steve Finnan Gets His New Contract

August 3, 2007

As mentioned on July 23rd, Steve Finnan was next in line for a new Liverpool contract - now he has one. After 121 appearances in the league for Liverpool, Finnan (31) has put pen to paper on a new two year deal.

Phil Neal recognises the steely determination of the Limerick man…

He’s cool under pressure no matter how big the game is. You get him in a tight situation and he doesn’t panic

Speaking from an Irish perspective I think its a great move to get Finnan tied down at the club, he’s an absolute certain fixture in the right back position for this season and I’ve a feeling he’ll be seeing out his career at Anfield (or the new stadium!), would be a shame not to at this stage!
