Liverpool Beat Toulouse In Convincing Form

I’ve been trying to regain a sense of normality after my holiday away last week but arriving home last night to the last three minutes of the Liverpool game was a bit of an awakening - where did we pull 4-0 out of?

There was great talk before the game about the new found strength in depth of the Liverpool squad, not having to worry that Gerrard and Carragher were missing for a night. Well, Dirk Kuyt and co certainly rang true on that one, leaving Toulouse for dead in a 4-0 annihilation at Anfield last night.

Peter Crouch showed great form last night having missed the previous two games and made it 1-0 with 19 minutes done on the clock. Sami Hyypia, wearing the armband in place of both Gerrard and Carragher, shook off his broken nose to head home at the start of the second half before Dirk Kuyt fired not one, but two goals in the last few minutes of the game to leave the Reds with a 4-0 win on the night and a 5-0 win overall.

I figured we’d have the beating of Toulouse at Anfield, slightly disappointed we couldn’t widen the scoreline in the first leg, but little did I think we would do it so convincingly last night. Javier Mascherano, Yossi Benayoun made great impressions on the night. Sebastian Leto picked up a debut for Liverpool as did Lucas Leiva who replaced Momo Sissoko midway through the second half.

The result of course puts us into the draw held tomorrow when we learn who we’ll be grouped up against this year. Rangers too have made it into the group stage where we should be joined by Arsenal as well with the Gunners on track for qualification tonight. I sure am looking forward to the draw tomorrow though.

And to finally regaining a sense of normality!
