Daniel Agger makes it 2-0 after Nabil El Zhar flys a corner ball into the box, Agger rising up for his first of the preseason and setting the Reds well on their way to a 4/4 record in pre-season, much better than last year thank God.

Here’s the team for the start of the second half…
Nikolay Mihaylov stays in goal, Riise is on at left back, Paletta and Agger in the centre with Arbeloa remaining on and going to the right; Jack Hobbs stays on with Xabi Alonso brought into the middle of the park; Ryan Babel’s knock might have gotten him removed as he makes way for Jermaine Pennant on the right with Yossi Benayoun staying on the right.
Fernando Torres and Peter Crouch start the second half up front.

Here waiting for the second half to kick off in Switzerland and Liverpool are a goal to the good at the break. Wholesale changes expected in the second half with Ryan Babel one of the few likely to continue. Gerrard, Carragher, Arbeloa, Kuyt, Finnan all gone with Crouch, Torres, Jermaine Pennant, Daniel Agger and John Arne Riise expected to hit the pitch after the interval.
There was an injury concern for Ryan Babel about five minutes before the break, the Dutch U21 starlet going down to the ground and attended on the pitch by team docs, Voronin too taking a bit of a knock during the build up to Steven Gerrard’s opening goal.
It was looking like there’d be no goal action at all in the first half, Auxerre having the better of the slim chances in the game until Steven Gerrard cropped up just before the half. Steve Finnan started the run, his ball finding its way to Gerrard with a clever Ryan Babel dummy in between. With Gerrard inside the box, the ball on his left foot, there was no way he would miss, the captain firing into the back of the net for Liverpool’s opening goal.

Nice dummy by Ryan Babel sets up Steven Gerrard for a left footed strike to the back of the net. It all started back with Steven Finnan, finding Andriy Voronin to thread on to Steven Gerrard with Babel taking out two defenders with the dummy. A bit of a knock for Voronin amongst the action but we’ve got our first goal, Liverpool 1, Auxerre 0 and pretty much on the stroke of a relatively uneventful first half.

Still nothing major going on in the game barring one chance just gone for Auxerre who should have made it 1-0. There’s been chopping and changing in the lineup, Dirk Kuyt flanking out right with Ryan Babel pushing into a central role. Rafa Benitez has been chatting on and off with Peter Crouch and Fernando Torres, Crouch getting some nice cheers from the crowd.
I reckon we’ll see both strikers plus Riise start off the second half if not wholesale changes, get some pace going into the game.
Tip of the hat to Yossi Benayoun though, has impressed so far.

We’re around mid way through the first half of Liverpool’s away friendly to Auxerre and there’s still no score. The weather is a far cry from the torrential rain here in Ireland but the lads are working hard. Kuyt and Hobbs have gone close, Babel and Benayoun are getting their cheers and are active, both having switched flanks at the minute with Babel playing out right and Benayoun on the left flank.
Mihaylov is getting another lesson in first team football, Jamie Carragher making sure his voice is being heard loud at the back after one or two Liverpool defensive errors but as the score stands its 0-0 at present.

Dudek Unveiled At Madrid Tomorrow
July 19, 2007
Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek will be unveiled in Madrid tomorrow afternoon as Real’s fourth summer signing following a medical tomorrow morning.
Unhappy to sit around Liverpool as the #2 option, he seems quite happy at 34 to go to Madrid and play second fiddle to Iker Casillas and if he is sure let him off though I can’t see him getting much more in the line of games at Madrid as he would have at Liverpool this season but you’ve got to hope (or he does) that he’ll get something out of the Spanish move. After spending the bulk of two seasons on the bench he’d have to.
But after his service to Liverpool in recent years, certainly one of Gerard Houllier’s better signings, I’ll say thanks once again to Jerzy Dudek and wish him all the best in Madrid and in La Liga this coming season. Who knows, maybe he’ll wind up in goal facing Liverpool in a penalty shootout in the Champions League this season.
Madrid have called a midday press conference to introduce Dudek as their fourth signing after Pepe, Christoph Metzelder and Javier Saviola.

Is it the boy wonder from Spain that is Fernando Torres? How about one of our new speedy wingers in the form of Dutch U21 star Ryan Babel or Israeli winger Yossi Benayoun? How about Andriy Voronin? A man of the match performance against Crewe and the same against Bremen earlier this week, coupled with the fact that he’s scored twice in two games and didn’t cost a penny on arrival?
