Onwards Towards Barca And The Last Eight
There’s just over an hour to tonights Anfield kick off against Barcelona with a place in the last eight of the Champions League at stake. Seriously disappointed that the team couldn’t do the business against United at the weekend, more annoyed that it was John O’Shea that scored, and seriously pissed that it was in the dying minutes of the game but what can you do!
At least we know at this stage the league is well done and dusted - but that doesn’t mean we roll over and concede tonight either.
Liverpool have a terrific chance of taking a place in the quarter finals of the Champions League as they lead Barcelona 2-1, shellshocked by their loss on home soil in the first leg.
Benitez is weary of the Spaniards attack
They need to score at least twice - we know they are an attacking side. I expect them to play with Ronaldinho, Samuel Eto’o and Lionel Messi up front and we are prepared for that.
But according to Steven Gerrard on the radio this evening, Liverpool have been keeping a close eye on Barcelona and their tactics of late which have changed a lot. Barca look to be a tricky side at the moment to pin down, at least tactically so we’ll have to see how that plays out. If Eto’o starts there could be some trouble at Anfield
Overall though, the feet are pretty grounded, and damn right they should be. A place in the last eight with the opportunity to dispose of Barcelona is nothing to be sniffed at. Steven Gerrard this time…
We are starting on Tuesday with the score at 0-0 and it would be suicidal for us to go into the game over-confident because we have a slight advantage
Deco and Lillian Thuram are expected to play after resting up ahead of the game while Liverpool themselves don’t have any real injury worries or scares going into this evening. If Liverpool go out tonight thinking the game is in the bag its going to be over before we’ve even started. Keep the heads down, the minds leveled and focused and don’t get carried away. We should really be playing as if we’re already 2-1 down and have it all to do - forget the cushion and finish the job here - onwards towards the last eight!
