So, United Tomorrow Eh?
Yet another weekend comes and I won’t be around to catch a big Liverpool game. The early kick off is a bit of a pain in the arse as I’ll be on the road heading to the Blog Awards tomorrow. Liverpool Access might not have made the cut but KilkennyMusic.com did. For anyone who’s reading and will be in attendance tomorrow, say ‘hi’ if you recognise me on the night.
The important thing about tomorrow though is that we’ve got a strong chance to put the skids on United’s mammoth run to the title. Odds are at this stage that it will be United and not Chelsea who will lift the trophy, what with Steven Gerrard already having conceded Liverpool’s title hopes. There’s always Europe, eh Stevie?
I’ll be delighted if someone knocks Rio Ferdinand about the place tomorrow seen as I won’t be there to do it myself. Last thing I want to see is that head-the-ball ruining Liverpool’s winning streak at Anfield, now at 30 games unbeaten. It has been over five years though since Liverpool have beaten United at Anfield in the league so historically at least, the stats are against us.
We’re currently 16 points behind United, a pretty uncatchable lead at this point in the season, but reducing that to 13 while cutting the gap between ourselves and Chelsea to just four points would make for a damn good run in to the end of the season.
Keep an eye on Ferdinand though. Four goals he’s scored for United, two of them against Liverpool, and both of them in the last two games. United bet us well in October gone but we can’t have that tomorrow night. Too much at stake for us, especially going into the Barcelona game.
I’m going to stick my neck out and call a Liverpool win. I’ll take it any way it comes - scrappy, sloppy - but I’ll be taking a win.
