Two In, Maschereno On The Waiting List
February 1, 2007
A nice little flurry of activity yesterday saw Alvaro Arbeloa arrive at Anfield from Spain along with youngster Francisco Manuel Duran, while Javier Maschereno has been made to wait. The Argentine’s papers were pushed through to the Premier League and special dispensation was granted for his move from West Ham but until the Premier League actually give it the thumbs up it looks like the move is up in the air.
What we do have is a new foreigner for the reserves (seen as there has been a bit of a clearout in that department in recent weeks) along with a new defender for the first team in Arbeloa, who is possibly looking at action in the Merseyside derby come Saturday. By all accounts Rafa has brought him in to put pressure on Steve Finnan which is fair enough, there’s already good competition for left and centre spots so there may as well be the same for right back.
As for Mascherano, its a case of playing the waiting game. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long, he is a player with quality who could adapt well to the Premier League given the opportunity at Anfield. All things going to plan he’ll be along shortly but if the move does get pushed through I doubt we’ll see him on form until the start of next season.
