Liverpool Beat Sheffield United 4-0 At Anfield

2-0 in the first half was pretty good going, two penalties from Robbie Fowler after two subsequent challenges on Steven Gerrard. Paddy Kenny guessed right for the first one but couldn’t reach it in time, while Fowler sent the Irishman the wrong way for the second one.

Liverpool were in control of the game from start to finish and while I was dubious about Jerzy Dudek being in goal for the game while Pepe Reina attended to his wife, he really had nothing to do as Sheffield United were rarely a threat, especially throughout the entirety of the first half.

LIverpool kept the foot down in the second half and were rewarded with two further goals, the first coming from Sami Hyypia on 71 minutes when the Finn found himself with room to shoot in the box, albeit his shot taking a deflection on the way to the back of the net but they all count at the end of the day. Steven Gerrard himself then finished United off with a cracker of a drive just minutes later.

Overall a top-drawer performance from Liverpool, even with seven changes made to the side after beating Barcelona on Wednesday night and no Craig Bellamy on the team at all it was a high spirited performance and a delight to see.

Also great to see Robbie bag another few goals, he hasn’t scored in the league since his penalty against Sheffield United and now he’s got another two. I’ve a strong feeling that this season will be Robbie’s last at Liverpool so its fitting that he gets a good run out before the season ends. With the arrival of Andriy Voronin pretty much confirmed for the summer, something’s got to give…
