Gerrard On MBE: “Absolutely Thrilled”

Steven Gerrard’s biography (which is available now in Eason for a reduced price of EUR6.99 in the sales) is the kind of book that is going to be reappearing on the shelves over the next year or two and beyond with these “added chapters” or “revised editions”, Gerrard adding a new chapter to his footballing success by collecting an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List..

I am absolutely thrilled and honoured to receive this recognition for playing a game I’ve loved all my life

While Christmas 2005 proved no joy for Gerrard after the Champions League, we can’t forget what he’s done for the team in the last season, including the FA Cup Final and a total of 23 goals in last year’s campaign. While the goals haven’t been as plentiful this season there is no doubt that Gerrard is most deserving of the award.

If you don’t know what an ‘MBE’ is, here’s a snip from Wikipedia

The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry established on 4 June 1917 by King George V. The Order includes five classes in civil and military divisions; in decreasing order of seniority, these are

  • Knight Grand Cross or Dame Grand Cross (GBE)
  • Knight Commander or Dame Commander (KBE or DBE)
  • Commander (CBE)
  • Officer (OBE)
  • Member (MBE)

Only the two highest ranks entail admission into knighthood allowing the receiver to use the title ‘Sir’ (male) or ‘Dame’ (female) before one’s name, such as Sir Clive Woodward who is a KBE.
