Bellamy Scores For Wales
November 14, 2006
He might not have found his scoring form for Liverpool but Craig Bellamy continues to score for his country, the Welshman bagging another goal earlier tonight against Liechtenstein, his left-footed effort finding the underside of the crossbar and dropping into the goal. Bellamy also set up two, helping out Jason Koumas and Chris Llewellyn find the back of the net, Koumas striking twice. Wales ran out 4-0 winners.

Reina Gives Up On Title
November 13, 2006
Pepe Reina has conceded the title race, marking another year that Liverpool give up on the title. Though, after yesterday’s show, some of the players must be finding it a bit hard - especially Reina.
I myself wasn’t expecting the start or current run of form by Man United who sit 14 points clear of us after yesterday’s shambles. Speaking earlier today Reina said
Fourth place is our target now - we have to fight for that. The championship is probably too far away for us because mathematically Manchester United and Chelsea are very superior. But we have a lot of confidence in Europe and that is a target as well. We are probably a better team in the Champions League than in the Premiership.
Confidence in Europe is one thing, we’ve been successful in Europe with both the UEFA Cup and Champions League in the past few seasons but it seems like the day will never come when we take our place back at the top of the league. Again, it comes down to poor away form and it still seems like there’s nothing we can do about it and until we do, we’ll always be second best, or in Reina’s eyes, fourth at a maximum.

Result: Arsenal 3 - 0 Liverpool
November 12, 2006
Can you say humiliation?
Thats how the club should feel after the performance at Emirates Stadium this afternoon, Liverpool walking away at a 3-0 defeate, lucky that it wasn’t more. After coming off a run of five straight wins and some fantastic home performances, Liverpool were truely outclassed away to Arsenal going in 1-0 down at the break before conceding another 2 goals through the second half.
The game might well have taken a different slant had Peter Crouch’s first half goal after a quarter of an hour stood, Crouch slotting home Alonso’s cross but to be ruled offside.
Flamini opened the scoring for Arsela just five minutes before the half slotting in from close range before Kolo TourĂ© added one of his own ten mintues into the second half when he collected the ball from Robin Van Persie and fired nicely past Pepe Reina for Arsenal’s second. Joy of joys then as ex-Chelsea man William Gallas popped up to score Arsenal’s third with ten minutes to go, the Frenchman unmarked in the box to fire home Van Persie’s corner.
Craig Bellamy came on in the second half and found the back of the net - again for Liverpool to see the goal ruled offside. Bad luck and missed chances spoiled Liverpool’s day but Arsenal were surely the deserving winners at 3-0.
Liverpool take on Middlesbrough next Saturday.

Sissoko Out Until New Year
November 9, 2006
Its going to be January before we see Momo Sissoko back in action after the Malian midfielder dislocated his should after taking a heavy fall last night against Birmingham. Reports from the club are suggesting that he’s going to require surgery, due to take place at some stage next week in order to repair the damage done to his shoulder. You might remember Damien Duff having the same problem at Chelsea last season? Not something you like to see.
In other injury news, ex-Red Djimi Traore is on the road to recovery and has been given the green light to return to full contact training by Charlton after suffering a fracture in his left leg at the start of September. Best of luck to him in the recovery.

Result: Birmingham 0 - 1 Liverpool
November 8, 2006
Liverpool are through to the quarter finals of the League Cup, something Man United couldn’t manage this season, after a 1-0 win away from home to Birmingham, Liverpool’s goal coming courtesy of Danny Agger.
While Liverpool walk away with the victory, Craig Bellamy should be kicking himself before he goes to bed tonight for wasting several great chances.
Bolo Zenden and Jermaine Pennant were the only two on the starting eleven that carried over from the win against Reading last weekend as Rafa rang in the changes for the League Cup game, and rightly so. Momo Sissoko started but was stretchered off, possibly with a dislocated shoulder after taking a heavy fall but we should know more about this by morning.
The game’s only goal came through Danny Agger, set up by a Jermaine Pennant corner, Agger making the best of a defensive lapse in clearing the ball to almost burst the net, smashing the ball home and high into the goal from inside the 6 yard box giving Agger his second goal of the season following his wonderstrike against West Ham.
Robbie Fowler, captain for the night, should be snapping too when it looked like he would be taking Liverpool’s penalty midway through the second half, Bellamy instead getting to take the kick and then scuffing the attempt, Maik Taylor saving with ease.
Final score from St Andrews, 1-0 to Liverpool.

“I believe I can play at this level” - Kuyt
November 5, 2006
Dirk Kuyt believes he can play at Premiership level, even if those in Holland doubted him heavily before his Anfield arrival this summer - and I believe him two. Five goals in his last six games for the club is giving Liverpool that extra edge that we (the fans) have wanted to see for so long - someone who sees a goal opportunity, takes it, and scores.
In the press this morning Kuyt is quoted as saying
I know people in Holland were doubting I could play here when I joined, but I just intend to give 100% every time and I believe I can play at this level. I did well in Holland, although I accept the pace is much greater in England and the Premier League is a higher level. I watched the Premier League on television in Holland for many years before I came here. I knew how fast it all was and that it was one of the world’s best competitions.
Sure enough he didn’t get to shine at the World Cup but he seems to be settling in quite well in the Liverpool surrounds and his last run of games, which also saw him score both goals in yesterday’s win over Reading, surely proves that point.
We may be trailing the league leaders by 11 points but we’re starting to get in to the swing of things now, at least on the home front, so hopefully it won’t be too long before we get to close up that gap, especially if Kuyt maintains and improves on the form he’s been showing of late.

Result: Liverpool 2 - 0 Reading
November 4, 2006
A goal in either half for Dirk Kuyt gave the lads their fourth successive win on home soil in two weeks as Liverpool beat Reading convincingly, walking away from Anfield 2-0 winners.
Kuyt struck first after a quarter of an hour in front of the away end after Steven Gerrard set a long ball to Peter Crouch, Crouch heading across the goal for Kuyt to tidy up at the near post. The Dutchman struck again with just over 15 minutes remaining in the second half, Jermaine Pennant floating in a corner for Crouch to head home, Hahnemann parrying into the path of Dirk Kuyt who volleyed the ball home in front of the Kop from within the 6 yard box.
Liverpool created plenty of chances and heaped on the pressure in the second half, Reading lucky to walk away with just a two goal defecit. Mark Gonzalez and Momo Sissoko both made second half appearances while Robbie Fowler came on for the last five minutes of the game.
The win lifts the club to seventh in the league table, still 11 points behind United who beat Portsmouth 3-0 this afternoon as well. Roll on Arsenal I tell ya!

Live: Liverpool 2 - 0 Reading
November 4, 2006
We’re 2-0 to the good at Anfield as Dirk Kuyt has just grabbed his second and Liverpool’s second of the day. Jermaine Pennant started the movement with his inswinging corner for Peter Crouch to head from the middle of the box, Hahnemann unable to collect the ball and instead parrying into the path of Kuyt to volley home from six yards.
