Result: Bolton 2 - 0 Liverpool
September 30, 2006
Yet again, we have an away game and fail to find a win. Yet again, we have a game against Bolton where we can’t find a win. Now, we’ve lost three games at what is still the early stage of the season.
Bolton opened the scoring on 29 minutes, Pepe Reina giving up a silly free kick by handling just outside his area, the linesman flagging the offence quite promptly. The resultant free kick proved a shambles defensive-wise for Liverpool, Gary Speed finding no trouble with the wall as the former Everton man blasted past Reina in the Liverpool goal.
Chances fell Liverpool’s way before and after the Bolton goal with Alonso, Bellamy, Gerrard and Kuyt all going close but alas to no avail.
The second half started badly for Liverpool, Ivan Campo rising to meet a Kevin Davis cross and head Bolton further in front only four minutes after the break.
Liverpool, for the most part of the second half just weren’t at the races at all. Though it was nice to see him start again, Pennant was substituted midway through the half with Luis Garcia coming on to take his place, the Spaniard failing to make an impact when it mattered most. Liverpool though, to their credit, controlled the play in both halves but Bolton had plenty in the tank to frustrate Liverpool all the way to the final whistle.
So our winning streak comes to a close, in typical fashion against Bolton who yet again prove to be the thorn in Anfield’s side. Former Reds Nic Anelka and El-Hadji Diouf had decent games for their club and, though they couldn’t find the target themselves, helped Bolton on the day to secure the win against their former employers. Bolton continue to hold a clean sheet record at the Reebok Stadium so far this season.

Live: Bolton 2 - 0 Liverpool

Whatever about the first goal, nothing wrong with the second and still no sign of an away win for Liverpool as we continue to flop on the road, we’re now 2-0 down to Bolton. Davis with the cross in front the flank for Ivan Campo to get his head to the ball and nod past Reina to put Bolton two goals to the good.
Did I say “typical” already and the fact that I hate when we play Bolton? Enough said…. Just five minutes gone in the second half.

Long way to go in the game but yet again people will be looking to hang Pepe Reina, an error in judgement giving up the free kick that lead to the only goal of the game so far, Gary Speed converting the dead ball from the edge of the area on 29 minutes.
Liverpool have had the best of the football, no denying that. Kuyt going close, Bellamy and Gerrard going close, Alonso hitting the post from 25 yards out but nothing going towards the back of the net.
A clear case for a penalty with Ivan Campo pushing and shoving in front of the referee but nothing coming out of it for Liverpool, Bolton at the moment doing their absolute best to frustrate Liverpool by any means possible. Crouch and Zenden I feel will be called into action in the second half to try and shake Bolton up a bit but for the moment it stands Bolton 1, Liverpool 0.
Second half to come.

Disaster for Liverpool as Bolton have turned the game around on 29 minutes, Pepe Reina giving away a free kick on the edge of the area, quite unneccessary, the linesman flagging Reina for kicking the ball outside of his area. Gary Speed had no problem in lining up the free kick and picking through an awful gap in the wall to fire Bolton into the lead, pretty much against the run of play of the game on a whole so far.
Typical.

Midway through the first half and its still scoreless at the Reebok. Kuyt and Alonso have had the best of the chances, both going extremely close to finding the back of the net but to no avail. Faye is lucky to still be on the pitch for Bolton, booked early on for a challenge on Gerrard and then splitting Dirk Kuyt open with a heavy elbow in an aerial challenge.

Preview: Bolton vs Liverpool
September 30, 2006
I hate when we play Bolton. Hasn’t exactly been the most profitable of fixtures for Liverpool in recent seasons but I’m hoping today is going to change things, that hope fuelled by Bellamy and Kuyt starting up front. Despite Peter Crouch’s heroics against Galatasary and wondergoal performance, the big man will take a seat on the bench at the Reebok today.
No massive injury worries for Liverpool but again a few changes from the side that beat Galatasary 3-2 in the Champions League in midweek. Garcia and Agger are dropped for Sissoko and Hyypia while there is no place on the bench for Fabio Aurelio either as John Arne Riise starts in his place at left back.
The team looks as follows: Reina, Finnan, Hyypia, Carragher, Riise, Pennant, Alonso, Sissoko, Gerrard, Kuyt, Bellamy. Jerzy Dudek and Bolo Zenden take up the other two spots on the bench (alongside Garcia, Agger & Crouch).
The game kicks off in just over a half hours time with audio coverage on LiverpoolFC.tv if you’ve got the e-Season ticket, while you can also catch the game live on Sky Sports.

Stop Robbing The Players!
September 30, 2006
First it was Jerzy Dudek, now its Peter Crouch. Will people not just leave the squad alone? Price one has to pay for the celebrity footballer lifestyle perhaps but nobody wants to return home after a game and find their house trashed, couches cut up, and your car robbed out of the driveway - whether you’re a footballer or not, its just not right!
Thats exactly what happened Peter Crouch (according to TEAMtalk this morning anyway) who returned home after a brilliant game against Galatasaray midweek to find that his house had been broken into and ripped apart and his car swiped from the driveway.
It seems soccer burglaries are on the rise; Jerzy Dudek suffered the same fate earlier in the year when he had medals and a whole collection of football memorabilia stolen from his home (and later returned); Wayne Rooney has his house ransacked in June; Andy Van Der Meyde had his car and his dog nicked; Beckham had his car nicked…. the list goes on and no doubt will continue to do so.
Still, its just not on!

Cash Boost For New Stadium
September 28, 2006
Liverpool have shown they’ve got the cash for the new stadium, guaranteeing that £180m was available for the proposed development of Stanley Park today. As such, the club have received an additional £9m in funding through the European Union Objective One fund which was secured today.
The cash boost is great news for the club as it fully paves the way for development of the new stadium and should remove any fears or doubts of the proposed development going ahead.

Video: Peter Crouch Goal vs Galatasaray
September 28, 2006
His first goal was brilliant. Fabio Aurélio’s pin-perfect cross into the waiting path of Peter Crouch to fire home past Mondragon after 9 minutes. His second goal was sublime, getting under Steve Finnan’s cross leaving Mondragon staring in disbelief at the lanky Englishman who just pulled off a sweet scissors kick in front of his very eyes - and buried the ball in the back of the net. Just in case it never happens again… here’s the video of that goal from last night.

Reading Game Set For Wednesday
September 28, 2006
Liverpool’s Carling Cup third round tie against Reading has been set for Wednesday October 25th with kickoff at 8pm. No confirmation yet as to whether the game is shown on TV (though with the current run of Liverpool games on TV I wouldn’t be surprised). The game is down for Anfield, with the two sides meeting in the league ten days later again at Anfield, thankfully this time with a 3pm kickoff.
