Injury Update: Carragher & Riise
Word from LiverpoolFC.tv this afternoon points that Jamie Carragher and John Arne Riise suffered a bit more than the suspected twisted ankles yesterday and both look set to spend at least two weeks on the sidelines.
Jamie Carragher has suffered sprained medial ligaments in his left ankle. Riise, who went down under a heavy challenge from Rob Hulse, has torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle.
Both will most certainly play no part in this week’s Champions League qualifier.

Got something to say?

While it’s tough to see both Riise and Carra out for tonight’s match, I initially feared that Riise’s injury (in particular) was much worse. So all in all, I suppose that things could have been dire.
How do you feel about the Haifa match? With all the build up and the hostility from the opposing camp (mind games), I’m getting a bit nervous. It now appears that Gerrard is out as well (stomach problems, according to the Guardian).
Definitely, I’m delighted that its nothing worse for Riise, have been highly impressed with him through preseason and in particular against Chelsea in the Community Shield.
I think tonight will be tough but the away game in a neutral venue should be enough of an incentive for Liverpool to push through. They know they need to score, they’ve got the players that can do it and though its going to be a blow to lose Riise, Carra and possibly Gerrard as well for the game I think that we’ll see a Liverpool win tonight.
There’s an awful lot riding on the game, European stature and money mainly but they did a decent job on home soil in the first leg though I’ll certainly be expecting a better performance out of them. We haven’t managed a win in our last four away games (exluding the Community Shield) so tonight better be an improvement!
