Five Year Deal For Carson
The one possible real challenger to Paul Robinson’s place between the English posts is Scott Carson, given time of course. The 20 year old played no part on the pitch during England’s failed World Cup campaign but is without doubt one of England’s best goalkeeping prospects and as a sign of the manager’s faith in the lad, Benitez has just tied Scott Carson down to a new five year deal at Anfield.
I’m hoping that this means we’ll see a little more of Carson during the season. Not that I would go replacing Pepe Reina - God no - but take him to the League Cup, take him to the early stages of the FA Cup or those latter Champions League group games (showing my confidence here at all?).
Sheffield Wednesday, where Carson had spent a good chunk of last season on loan for first team action, were waiting patiently in the wings to sign the former Leeds man, rumoured to be queuing up alongside Portsmouth for his services but with a five year deal now wrapped up it could well be Dudek that heads for the door first.

Got something to say?

This is great news. I suspect that Carson will be sent out on loan again, but with a recall clause and for first team experience only (and not as a potential transfer candidate). I still remember the job he did against Juventus: Carson has tremendous ability and potential. If Pepe decides in 2-3 years that he wants to return to Spain, then we have in Carson our replacement.
Dudek and 8 million to Feyenoord for Kuijt, anyone?
Hmmmm. 8 million if we had the money maybe. Still not convinced of the ten million price tag though if a million were to come out of Traoré and something out of Salif Diao, plus a permanent move for Chris Kirkland then we might be doing ok to get Kuyt in.
